Paula Madison will be a featured speaker at the Queens Book Festival on Sunday, August 7th at 1:00pm on the topic of "Beyond the Limbo - Caribbean Identity in the USA."
Caribbean-Americans have to maneuver between Caribbean heritage and U.S. culture and sub-cultures in order to formulate their identities. Constructing a new identity in a society that often times is alien to one’s own can be daunting especially when confronting the racial and cultural politics of America. How do these authors manage and break boundaries of preconceived notions and prejudice about people of Caribbean descent? How do they incorporate crucial elements of Caribbean cultures and life into their work? Moderated by Edwidge Danticat.
